CONCERNED CITIZENS OF IFELODUN LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA CRY OUT OVER GOVERNMENT NEGLECT OF AMOYO–GBAGEDE–KABBA ORIAJE–REKE, AMOYO–GANMO–UNILORIN SECOND GATE AND GANMO–AKATA–OPOLO COMMUNITIES ROAD
We, the concerned citizens of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, write with heavy hearts to draw public attention to the unending neglect suffered by communities along the Amoyo–Gbagede–Kabba.oriaje–Reke road, Amoyo–Ganmo–Unilorin Second Gate road, as well as the Ganmo–Amoyo–Akata–Opolo axis.
For over eight (6) years, while His Excellency, the Governor of Kwara State continues to list and showcase his achievements across certain parts of the state, our communities remain in the dark shadows of abandonment. The situation is made worse because the very leaders who ought to be our voices, the Senator representing Kwara South, the member representing us at the Federal House of Representatives, the Local Government Chairman and even our Councilor have all failed to bring the plight of our people into the light of government attention.
It is painful that in this 21st century, residents of our communities still have to bear the burden of providing for themselves the basic amenities that government is constitutionally mandated to deliver. Imagine a people forced to contribute money to purchase electricity transformers, sink boreholes, grade dilapidated roads, hire vigilantes and pay for community security and even provide other social amenities that are supposed to be the very foundation of responsible governance.
The roads connecting our communities, especially the Amoyo–Gbagede–Kabba oriaje–Reke and Amoyo–Ganmo–Unilorin Second Gate corridors, have become death traps. Farmers struggle to move their produce to market. Traders, commuters and students risk their lives daily navigating these terrible roads. Economic activity has been crippled and hardship worsens as transporters charge exorbitant fares due to the bad condition of the roads. Our children do go to school lately whenever there is rainfall since our business and working place are mostly in the Ilorin city.
Meanwhile, the representatives we voted for appear to have forgotten us entirely. For eight solid years, there has been no sign of meaningful development in our axis, not a single government project to point to. Our Senator has not deemed it fit to even acknowledge our existence. Our House of Representatives member has remained silent as though our cries are not part of his mandate. The Local Government Chairman and Councilor, closest to the grassroots, appear absent and disconnected from the suffering of the very people who gave them their mandates.
We ask: Are we not part of Kwara State? Are we not citizens of Nigeria deserving of the dividends of democracy? Why must our communities live like second-class citizens, cut off from progress while other areas enjoy government presence?
We want it on record that the people of Amoyo–Gbagede–Kabba oriaje–Reke, Amoyo–Ganmo–Unilorin Second Gate and Ganmo–Amoyo–Akata–Opolo communities are tired of being neglected. We demand immediate government intervention in road infrastructure, transformer for electricity supply, water projects, healthcare access and security support.
Our leaders must be reminded that political office is a call to service, not an opportunity for selective attention. If in eight years nothing has been done, then now is the time to correct the injustice. Development should not be a privilege reserved for some; it must be the right of all.
We call on the Kwara State Government, the Senator representing Kwara South, the Federal House of Representatives member, the Ifelodun Local Government Chairman and the Councilor representing our wards to wake up to their responsibilities. Posterity will not forgive silence in the face of this glaring neglect.
We are no longer begging; we are demanding what is rightfully ours as citizens. Let there be projects. Let there be development. Let our communities finally feel the presence of government.
Signed,
Concerned Citizens of Ifelodun Local Government Area
